–Alisa Amor
This album Comfort, came out of a long period of illness in which I felt there was no comfort for me. I believed that there could be a kind of comfort available even if the exterior world held no comfort.
I had an incurable rare ear disease called patulous eustachian tube and was not able to sing or even have easy conversations with my friends and I became very depressed for a long period of time.
Luckily I was not only a performing musician at the time, I was also a painter, which did not require me to speak or hear, so I focused on that for my job.
I spent the few hours that I was able to hear and speak normally writing this music.
I believe that music is a way to understand and heal ones self. I believed that I could still do that even if it were only for a short time when my ears would recover a while.
Some reasons I write songs are to explore my feelings, or to create a path to healing. So that I can listen to the music later and feel the shifting of my soul from a negative state to a more healed place.
I don’t believe in just putting on a happy face if I feel I am facing something stony, impenetrable, terrifying and sad. But I don’t believe in staying in those dark places any more time than needed!
That is why this album seems to alternate from dark to light, scary to sweet….it is a journey, maybe a spiraling journey towards wholeness.
I did eventually become one of the few people in the world to recover from the ear condition that I had. I can say with great confidence that as I healed emotionally inside, the ear healed. I still have much healing to do!
I hope that this music will be your friend on your own healing journey. Please listen to it when ever you need a taste of comfort. Much love on your journey–Alisa
Here are some lyrics
Explain
Anything can happen and it often will
Learning what you’re worth is such a bitter pill
But you can’t put a price on life
And you can’t buy security
Western woman takes it back to the store
you know it’s not quite what she bargained for
she says she wants it warm in winter, cool in summer
and everything to always go her way
But happiness will find you at the end of the road
When you’ve given up given up given up that heavy load
And there’s nothing left to hold you down
And you’re right to be scared
And you’re right to complain
Cause it’s not fair
That some get everything
Some get even
Some just get spooked and can’t stop running from their demons
Some are betrayed by their bodies
And some are betrayed by our mother earth
And some thing that Daddy lives up in the sky
Some think they know the reason why
But you can’t explain
no you can’t explain
Cause there’s no good reason for the pain
No one to blame
Let me say it again
You can’t explain
Earthquakes and hurricanes
Winners and losers saints and sinners
Go down in flames
Just the same
And you can’t explain
So put your mind to the grind
Won’t you tell me what you find
Oh you’re a sage on the page
But you’re deaf dumb and blind
Cause there’s no rules in this school
No ties that bind if you tow the line
Who’s the fool?
So stay alive don’t take sides
You know that one of these days
You’ll have to decide
What it means to you
What it means to you
What does it mean?
Is it just a dream?
Child of the desert
Child of the desert
His heart turned into stone
A land called forever
Where everyone’s alone
No love
I raise my eyes to the horizon
No one has come to save me today
It doesn’t matter
If I die but I
Swear upon my love for you
That I’ll never let the memory go
Till there’s nothing left but sand and bone
I will never say this was my home
He lives inside a castle
With the statue of a man
His arms reach out for water
In a fountain full of sand
His eyes
Seem to glare at the horizon
No one has come to save me today
It doesn’t matter
If I die but I
Swear upon my love for you
That I’ll never let that memory go
Of how deep and sweet that water flowed
For a moment I thought I was home
It weighed much more than silence
It came from deep inside
It sounded like a child
That was trying not to cry
His dreams
Like the birds on the horizon
So far away
His heart has been betrayed
Oh but it matters
Please forgive me
I swear upon my love for you
That you have to let that memory go
To make room for me inside your soul
Then together we will find our home
Come to my window it will start to rain
The clouds are heavy with tears
The earth has been thirsting for too many years
Our love is the seed of a beautiful rose
Won’t you help her grow
By letting go
Of your pain
You can break through the sky
With just a single cry
“let it rain”
Like it’s never rained before
Open up every door
You’re safe
Here in my secret heart
For what is joined in truth
Can never be torn apart
We are lost little children on the journey back to eden
Comfort me in the night with kisses sweet like milk and honey
Take my hand and at your command I will part my red sea
Like the moth to the flame is the shame that burns my body
We are lost little children on the journey back to eden
Comfort me in the night with kisses sweet like milk and honey
With the tip of my tongue I brought forth water from your stone
Nothing cures me like your love, so keep it coming
NASA
there’s nothing out there
the stars are closer
than we’ve ever dreamed
Children
don’t change the channel
the stars are closer
than your television screen
It’s bigger and it’s brighter
than anything you’ve ever seen
Return to earth all you astronauts
all you scientists and soldiers
you sailors of the seven seas
you great romantic dreamers
you ancient saints of poetry
you dancing suns and streamers of light
Sunshine
you never noticed
the light inside you
it’s everything you need
moonbeams
dance on the water
heaven I calling
from beyond your wildest dreams
it’s bigger and it’s brighter
than anything you’ve ever seen
Return to earth all you astronauts
all you scientists and soldiers
you sailors of the seven seas
you great romantic dreamers
you ancient saints of poetry
you dancing suns and streamers of light
I used to look up at the stars
thinkin’
how will I get that far?
I left that child so far behind
I closed her eyes I blew her mind
I laughed at all her schemes and dreams
I was so sure but now it seems…
that by our latest calculations
it’s a universe of music
the missing link, the smallest piece
the end of the equations
the circle of infinity has found it’s destination
return to earth all you astronauts
remember what you’re fighting for
surrender cause there is no war
return to earth
The Mill
I didn’t think the stream would go on forever
how could it last between the wheat fields and the sun
the brightest yellow and the softest blue
rolling on and on
take me to the mill
and show me how to grind the wheat
I’m the kind of girl you’re looking
I will do your every bidding
I’m just looking for something to
occupy my hands
occupy my mind
Through centuries and centuries she wanders through the night
a barren and a thorny land, I didn’t want to fight she says
but the miller came and cut me down, he left me here to die
and the very earth so hard and cold won’t stop the stones that grind
And then one night I found a forest
of lost and lonely endless green
it swallowed me while I was sleeping
and kept me safe within my dream
take me to the mill
and show me how to grind the wheat
I’m the kind of girl you’re looking
I will do your every bidding
I’m just looking for something to
occupy my hands
occupy my mind
My mind…
she walks through spiderwebs and scaffolding
she’s digging in the mines
remembering the gold she wore
the diamonds in the sky she says
the very earth has swallowed up
my treasure I must find it
and I can’t afford to rest until
I stop the stones that grind
I drowned my senses in that darkness
till something golden caught my eye
the sun was dancing on the water
reflections of the sky
take me to the mill
and show me how to grind the wheat
I’m the kind of girl you’re looking
I will do your every bidding
I’m just looking for something to
occupy my hands
occupy my mind
my mind…
and then the wind it rushed around me
and it pushed me from behind
and lightly like a shaft of wheat
I rose and I did fly
and the current strong supports my weight
beneath a shining sky I bask
in sweet surrender till the time
I meet the stones that grind
Stardive
————————————
I was born beneath the waves
that reflect the open sky
Hell, I’m breathing in this atmosphere
I’m opening my eyes
I reach for the life I crave
it slips through my fist and dies
but there’s someone there to comfort me
and every tear I cry is Heard
every word
is heard
every word ,every word.
Today we keep our hearts in chains
and we keep tearing up the land
and we brought on these hard rains
cause we didn’t understand
That we’re already saved
cause we already died!
So go on free your slaves
cause every tear they cry is Heard
every word,
is heard
every word, every word.
Everybody round the world wants to know
why we live in so much pain
everybody up in heaven, they don’t know why
it seems you’d rather die then let your life back in
This is my prayer
this is my prayer
this is my prayer
this is my prayer
I want to remember the day, the night, the light was born
I want to take my soul and send her to see the sky before the storm
I want to stardive
go tonight
let my light shine angel
stardive
angel, angel
how can I keep from falling down?
Angel says “just watch where you’re going”
Well, you say you’ve lost your hope
and my simple song’s a lie
yeah, I read those poems you wrote
where the little child died
Turn around and face your fear
you’ll be blinded by the light
that’s always there to comfort you
and every tear you cry
is Heard
every word
is heard
every word
every word.
Legend
Once upon a time once upon a time
once a upon a time in a land far far away
was a princess on a throne with a heart of gold
but she couldn’t stop crying since her prince went away
no she couldn’t stop her crying
and the leaves turned brown
soon summer was over and her garden was dying
and her people were restless cause they couldn’t stand that sound
so they locked her in her garden
just to get some relief
and her tears formed rivers and the vines grew around her
she was almost forgotten when somebody lost the key
and they built the town around her
and the sun shone bright
when children ask about that garden they say it’s locked for a good reason
there’s a ghost inside those walls and something isn’t right
I heard her crying in the night
Locked inside the garden
tangled in the vines
the ancient child of summer lies awaiting
for the sun to shine
the dark is her companion
so long lost is that key
but somehow she knows the hero of the story
will come to set her free
but the poor boy trembles
he feels to scared to fight
a pocket full of pebbles
a wanderer in the night
misfortune will not leave him
he fails to understand
but dreams a golden promise
that love will take his hand
she says go not knowing where
find not knowing what
the path is long the way not laid
the hero knows not where to turn
he says am I strong enough to really learn
to fight
and the wind says…..
ancient is your story
and sacred is your part
echoing the turning of the seasons
the chambers of the heart
grand father told the story
he closed the book and put it down he said
children longing for adventure and for glory
are still lost inside a dream
a dream within a dream
so wake and wake again
with the sunlight on your face
the sun is gonna shine
on my back door some day
