Rooms, food and facilities

Wild Orchid is an artsy 3 bedroom house with a sandy river beach.  The living/kitchen/dining area is large and spacious and includes part of a large rock upon which the house rests. A mural depicting the local mountains and waterfalls is painted on the wall behind the rock to complete the scene.  The small kitchenette is equipped with an energy saving refrigerator, blender, and many other cooking tools.  The bamboo banisters and pebbled pillar were made by local artisans. The artwork on the walls and tables was done lovingly by the owner, painter Alisa Amor.  All floors are covered with ceramic tile.

Each bedroom is unique. The large master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and also a hammock. The second bedroom (with a one person bed)is decorated in a bright rustic Mexican style. The third bedroom (also a double bed) doubles as a "family room" and is great for guests or children. The bathroom is large and luxurious and also features a rock as one of it's walls.

Neighbors Margarita and Ivan will greet you when you arrive, help you with your bags, and make sure everything is to your satisfaction. Margarita is a professional cook and is happy to make meals for you and to serve them wherever you wish including on the beach! (food is not included in the rental price) There are also many delicious restaurants in town, including one right across the river from the house! If you prefer to do your own cooking, there is a basic kitchen with a refrigerator, gas stovetop, and other tools. Special things that you can do here

Wild Orchid House has everything you need for a peaceful relaxing and fun-filled vacation. It is located directly on the river los Horcones; step out your door and swim in the beautiful turquoise water, relax on the sandy river beach or the warm rocks. Hike in the beautiful jungles, but if you go far, do hire a guide! Your hosts Ivan and Margarita will be happy to help you with this and any other things you might like to do. The town of Las Juntas y Veranos has many eco-tourism oriented activities. It is home to several zip line canopy tour sites.  Mountain biking and hiking tours regularly visit the area.  There is a local tequila factory where they explain the whole process and give you lots of samples.  Horseback riding, and bird watching  are also available.   Despite the quantity of  activities available, it is still very authentic. You will experience the hospitality of the "real Mexico" during your stay.

How this holiday makes a difference

This small town has been struggling to maintain itself in the eco-tourism industry. Jobs are scarce especially for young people and every little bit helps.  Staying here injects money into the local economy by providing employment and a fair wage for many people in our small community.  It sets the example that ecologically responsible businesses can prosper and therefore sends a message to those less aware who are not so careful of these factors and motivation to keep the town clean and quiet. The maintenance man, Ivan Pina and the housekeeper, Margarita Pina have been our kind and helpful neighbors for many years. Margarita is also trained as a professional chef.   They helped us create a comfortable house and garden by adding local touches like the bamboo stair rail and planting local flowers in our front yard to greet us when we visit.  Funds from the rental pay the cost of maintaining electricity and spring water in the zone so that these people and their families also have these services.  We do not produce a paper brochure; our bookings and inquiries are handled by email
